Cologne, EDT and EDP: what to buy

Perfume labels confuse because the words are old. Eau de cologne and eau de fraîche carry the lightest concentration — typically three to five percent aromatic compounds — and evaporate fastest. They suit morning splash, after shaving, and hot days when you want brightness without a long trail. Eau de toilette sits in the middle, often five to fifteen percent, balancing wear time with air around the scent. Eau de parfum and parfum carry more oil, last longer, and project more — useful for evening, cold weather, or when you want fewer sprays to carry the day.

None of these names guarantee longevity on your skin. Structure matters as much as percentage: a well-built eau de toilette with amber, woods, vetiver or musk in the base can outlast a thin eau de parfum built only on citrus and light florals. Dry skin fades fragrance faster; moisturised pulse points help any concentration.
